I find when in a cruiser I get too fixated on the guns and need to develop strategy and tactics in using torpedoes.

It is fun to make fires and destroy modules, but it takes far longer to sink ships. For Cruisers, it might be best to load up HE Shells, for the most part.An HE Shells’ blast radius is large enough to cause damage to Destroyer-class ships’ modules (engine, steering gears, etc.), and the rapid-fire capability of some Cruisers can cause continuous Fire damage to larger ships such as the Battleship class. 1 Posted I started WoWs thinking I'd stick to cruisers to get the best of both worlds of torpedoes from destroyers and guns for pounding other ships. However as you get to the higher levels, HE becomes even worse, a lot don't even bother using it for the lightly armoured ships. Thus, HE is superior against lightly armored targets that AP might overpenetrate, including destroyers and carrier decks.ĪP is superior against more well-armored targets which would resist HE shells, like cruisers, carrier hulls, and especially battleships.

Thus while AP in WoT is a reliable penetrator that deals moderate damage, in Warships they either penetrate heavy armor, dealing more damage than HE, or overpenetrate light armor, dealing substantially less damage than HE. AP, however performs slightly differently as they are not purely kinetic penetrators as in WoT, but are actually fused HE shells designed to penetrate armor before detonating.

So from what I understand, the situations in which HE performs well are similar to WoT, in that if a target is poorly armored, HE will hit for high damage.
